Brest is a student city, but finding housing is still a marathon

UBO with its faculties and institutes, the engineering schools of the science park, the business schools and the health programmes: the Brest area counts more than 30,000 students, several thousand of whom come from another region or another country.

New academic year, exchange semester, internship, apprenticeship, master's year: you are looking for housing for a few months, often from a distance, and often when everything has already been taken.

An empty studio is not built for a single semester

On paper it looks obvious. In practice, for six or ten months:

  • An empty place to furnish, equip, then empty again when you leave
  • Contracts to open and then cancel: electricity, internet box, home insurance
  • A guarantor required, a security deposit to advance, a notice period to respect
  • University residences fully booked long before the start of term
  • Viewings that are impossible when you live 600 km away or abroad

What is already in the apartment

  • Double bed, desk and storage in every bedroom
  • Fully equipped kitchen, crockery included
  • Washing machine and tumble dryer
  • Sheets, duvet and towels provided
  • Water, electricity and heating included
  • Fibre up to 5 Gbit/s and television
  • Shared living room with sofa
  • Free public parking right below the building

Your own room, in a flatshare that is already set up

Our apartments on avenue de Tarente have four separate bedrooms, each with a double bed, a desk and storage. The living room, the fully equipped kitchen, the bathrooms and the laundry area are shared. You revise quietly in your room and live together in the lounge.

Bedroom 1 with double bed and desk

A room of your own, not a bed in a dorm

Every bedroom is a closed, furnished room: double bed, desk to work at, chest of drawers. Enough to string together revision sessions and video calls without disturbing anyone.

All inclusive, nothing to set up

Water, electricity, heating and fibre internet are included in the rent. No subscription to take out when you arrive, no contract to cancel when you leave.

A contract that matches your studies

For an internship, an exchange semester or a full year, the French mobility lease (1 to 10 months) is often the simplest framework. We check together that your situation qualifies, and otherwise use a standard furnished lease.

Someone on site, reachable

The owner lives in Brest and steps in within 24 hours. No platform, no call centre: you talk directly to the person who runs the apartment.

Faculties and schools, on foot or by tram

On avenue de Tarente you are in Bellevue, between the Bouguen campus and the Bellevue campus. Most UBO departments are a few hundred metres away; the rest is served by the tramway.

Tram, bus and bike at the door

Bellevue is one of the best-served districts in Brest: both tram lines and the main bus routes pass through it.

Tram line A

From Porte de Plouzané to Porte de Gouesnou, with a stop at place Napoléon III, by the Bellevue shopping centre. Straight to the city centre, Les Capucins and connections towards the station.

Tram line B

Opened in February 2026, it links the stations to La Cavale Blanche teaching hospital, serving the city centre, the universities and Bellevue: 11 stops and 4 interchange hubs.

Bus 1 and 5

Both lines reach the SNCF railway station in about twenty minutes and serve Morvan hospital and the city centre.

Bike and car

Free public parking right below the building, which is rare in Brest, and a cycle network that reaches the campus in a few minutes.

Fully equipped kitchen

Groceries and the pharmacy five minutes away

The Bellevue shopping centre, place Napoléon III, is a few hundred metres from the apartment. Enough to live without a car.

  • Carrefour Market, place Napoléon III, open Monday to Saturday and on Sunday morning
  • Bakery, pharmacy and newsagent on avenue de Tarente and on the square
  • Bellevue media library for quiet revision
  • Crous university canteens on the neighbouring campus
  • University sports facilities nearby
  • Equipped kitchen and laundry in the apartment, so you can cook instead of ordering in

The mobility lease, designed for studies

Created by the 2018 ELAN act, the French mobility lease is a short-term furnished rental contract reserved for certain situations, including studies, internships and apprenticeships. It is often the simplest framework for a semester in Brest.

From 1 to 10 months

The duration is set when signing and the lease is not renewable. It can be changed once, without exceeding ten months in total.

No security deposit

French law forbids one in a mobility lease. A guarantor is still possible, and the free Visale guarantee from Action Logement is accepted.

One month's notice

You can leave whenever you want with one month's notice: enough to cover an internship cut short or a semester that ends early.

Flat-rate charges

Utilities are settled as a flat rate: no year-end adjustment and no nasty surprise when the lease ends.

Flatsharing allowed

Several students can sign the same lease, with no joint liability clause between flatmates.

Housing benefit

A home rented under a mobility lease can qualify for CAF housing benefit under the usual conditions. Run your simulation before signing.

We only use the mobility lease when your situation qualifies for it. Otherwise we sign a standard furnished lease, which also suits students. We discuss this before any booking.

Students from every background

Our apartments welcome students from Brest as much as newcomers from another region or another country:

Frequently asked questions from students

Can I rent for a single semester?

Yes. Our stays run from a few weeks to ten months. The mobility lease covers exactly that need: a semester, an internship, an apprenticeship or an exchange year.

Do I need a guarantor?

A guarantor is usually required. The free Visale guarantee from Action Logement, available to most students, is accepted and replaces a personal guarantor.

Are utilities included in the rent?

Yes. Water, electricity, heating and fibre internet are included. You have no subscription to open on arrival and none to cancel when you leave.

How far are the UBO faculties?

The Bouguen campus and the Faculty of Medicine on avenue Camille Desmoulins are about a ten-minute walk away. The Bellevue campus is even closer. For the city-centre departments, count about twenty minutes by tram.

How do I get to the teaching hospital or the science park?

Tram line B, opened in February 2026, links Bellevue to La Cavale Blanche teaching hospital and to the railway stations. For the schools of the Brest-Iroise science park in Plouzané, count about thirty minutes by tram line A and then bus.

Can we book the whole apartment together?

Yes. The four bedrooms can be rented together by a group of friends, and the two apartments on avenue de Tarente can host up to eight people.

Can I view the place remotely?

Yes. All the photos are on the site and we arrange a video viewing if you are abroad or in another region.

Are there shops nearby?

The Bellevue shopping centre on place Napoléon III, with its Carrefour Market, pharmacy and media library, is a few hundred metres from the building.
